Second Weddings: Creative Ideas for Getting Remarried
by Kari Lloyd
Sometimes, the second time around is a lot more exciting than the first time. And, second weddings are a perfect example.
One of the best things about getting remarried or renewing your vows at this point in your life is that you most likely have more money than you did the first time. This makes it much easier to bring your vision for the perfect wedding day to life, and it also provides you with flexibility regarding the location of your ceremony. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to choose something more unusual because you will have already had the standard experience.
Ideas for Your Wedding Day
1) Destination Wedding: Most young couples get married close to home because it is more convenient and less expensive. Because the two of you are most likely financial stable at this point, you can skip local wedding spots and look at more exotic locations. Getting married in Hawaii or somewhere in the Caribbean is a very popular option, but you should also consider locations that mean something to the two of you. For example, if you both love skiing, you could get married in the winter at a high-end ski resort.
2) Private Ceremony: Many couples opt to have a much smaller wedding the second time around because they would rather save their money for their honeymoon or retirement. If you choose this option, you can still incorporate some aspects of your personality into the ceremony, including picking a location that is symbolic to the two of you such as your favorite park or the beach where you went during your first shared vacation.
3) Themed Wedding: A traditional wedding that features a white wedding dress is always a nice option, but for your second marriage, it could be more fun to select a theme instead. After all, if you have already gone down the aisle in a fancy dress, you might prefer to take a different approach this time. Selecting a theme will also let you honor some aspect of your relationship and personalities. For example, if the two of you met on Halloween, you could have a costume themed wedding.
Selecting a Wedding Ring
Your first wedding ring was probably beautiful but limited due to the expense involved. This time around, you will have a better idea what you enjoy, and you will also know what type of ring is functional for your daily activities. If you spent a lot of time taking the last ring off because it got in the way, you can use that experience to help select a wedding ring that is more functional. Additionally, you can choose to branch out into more unusual gem choices because you have already worn a diamond ring.
The most important aspect of planning a second marriage is to ensure that you have fun with it and take advantage of everything that you learned the first time. Consider, for instance, how many compromises you made with your family during your first wedding. This time, you will be in a better position to bring your dream wedding to life without relying on the assistance of others.
