Regular & Plus-Size Tops: Covered Perfectly for Women Over 40, 50, 60

by Tina Boomerina (Christina Gregoire)

I just sat down to write this review about a new online brand called Covered Perfectly, but I’m getting up again to slip into something more comfortable… my Covered Perfectly top. I just love the silky feel of Micro-Modal fabric on my skin.

Now… I’m back. Hey, I know that what I wrote in the first paragraph sounds like a cheesy ad, but it’s true. The (popular brand name) top I was wearing a few moments ago was scratchy. So, now I’m wearing my soft Covered Perfectly top even though no one can see me except for my dog, Rocco.

Covered Perfectly’s Micro-Modal Tops

First, I want to disclose that my Covered Perfectly top was sent to me (free) so that I would give it a good review if I liked it.

I never do that because I don’t want to compromise my opinions, but I made an exception and said, "Yes, I will try your top," after finding out that Pauline Durban, the founder of Covered Perfectly, is a 56-year-old woman who started her own clothing company… because she couldn’t find cute, comfortable tops that covered her upper arms and came down long enough to cover her tummy.

Okay, I Lied....

I said, “Yes,” to Pauline because her tops (well, most of her tops) are made of slinky Micro-Modal fabric.

Oooooh. Modal. My favorite fabric… My expensive Rachel Pally dresses are made of Modal. Modal has stretch. It has great drape. It feels cool and extravagant. It shows off your shape, but it covers your flaws. Micro-Modal is light but not flimsy. Micro-modal loves me and I love it back. It might be better than silk.

Well, I didn’t really lie. The things I said about Pauline are true. She’s one of us (a Baby Boomer) and she knows what we want because she wants it too. But, unlike the rest of us, instead of just complaining about what’s out there, Pauline decided to do something about it.

Her clothes are:

  • Made in the USA
  • Well Made
  • Dirt Cheap

Okay, nothing is dirt cheap these days, but Pauline’s prices ARE great. (Her site offers free shipping and free returns.)

Inexpensive Tops That Look Expensive

I just double-checked the prices for good Modal clothing. There’s a Rachel Pally Modal top that’s almost exactly like the Covered Perfectly Micro-Modal top I’m wearing right now, but the Pally top is $150 (suggested price) and Pauline’s top is $49.95.

How does she do this? Pauline says the reason her prices are so good is because she sells her tops direct. Her tops are only available through CoveredPerfectly.com (and use the code BR20 for a 20% discount)... unless Pauline is having another promotional event that you like better, and then you should use the code that gives you the best deal for what you want.

Pauline continues her story, “My production company told me I wasn’t charging enough, but I would rather sell more at less profit than make a high profit and the masses can’t afford them. I’ve had a lot of interest and things are going very well.” (article continues)

I agree you looked skinny in that top and "hot". She should have a men's line for fatties like me too.

I really like her tops. I would gladly buy them but they would be investment pieces for me at this point. Also I'm more of a 3 or 4X so they're probably too small. But I love the idea of supporting another woman's small business so I certainly will pin, share, and promote her products because she is awesome! That is a lovely fabric,,,, I snap up thrift shop garments made from it when I find them. God bless the women who replace their clothes yearly and donate to charity!

      Kay,

Thanks for helping out. I like the idea of helping another boomer chick, especially when the items are made in the US. I'll pass along the idea of adding larger sizes, but I was surprised how generous her sizing is. When she sent me her 1X top just so I could see the material and styling of her tops, I picked the largest size she had at the time (and back then I normally wore a 1X or 2X, so I REALLY didn't think an XL would fit). So, if you ever get a chance to try her largest sizes, you might be surprized. I sure was.

My weight fluxuates according to medications, and I know that right now I could fit into a size large... possibly even a medium... but I ordered an XL because I like the big drapey look right now. Hey, I'm into the Lagenlook, oversized, flowing style... and I like things that feel like pajamas or nightgowns. Who doesn't?

I'll email Pauline with your comment and see what happens. I never buy anything unless it's on sale or I really love it AND I KNOW I'LL WEAR IT FOR YEARS. I've been known to wear the same couple of things everywhere over and over. Sometimes, I go for quality over quantity... but it just depends on the item. There are times when a cheap thriftstore brooch is just the right thing.

        Kay,

Pauline says that she wants to add more plus sizes, but she just can't do it right now. (I'm sure it's a lot of work to start one's own clothing company.)

Also, Pauline is thinking about setting up a website with just plus sizes in the future, but she's so busy with her new business that she's not quite ready yet.

Hi Kay, thank you for sharing my business. I appreciate your support. As time goes by I will ad more sizes. I will say that my sizes are generous in the MicroModal. You might find that the 2X will fit you.
