What to Wear for New Year’s Eve: Simple Glam (Updated 2015)
They say it's this year’s trend, but it has been going on for decades! Every woman shows up in head to toe sparkles for New Year’s Eve… Not to mention unflattering sparkle dresses. How do you stand out?
Simple, classy, chic, in a sea of unflattering glitter, a black wrap dress with just the right amount of glam and sexy heels will do wonders.
Easy 1, 2, 3 for New Year's Eve
- Step One: Find your best LBD, even if it happens to be a pair of black leggings, a black tank, and a black, long, thin open sweater.
- Step Two: Find fabulous shoes that will knock off their socks.
- Step Three: Add just the right amount of sparkle.
As Coco Chanel said, you should always remove one piece of jewelry before you leave the house. Can you imagine what she would say about a gal in head to toe sparkles. Go fun, go classy, go flattering, go Coco (not the price of course).
Wear Classic Black
Find some flattering, black investment pieces you can rock all year round. Chances are you can pull together some kind of simple black outfit from your closet. It doesn't matter if you wear a dress or pants.
Now, let’s get to the good stuff and play and have some fun.
Metallic Accessories are Elegant
A black outfit worn with metallic accessories is an elegant look. Black with gold is always elegant and appropriate. Black with silver is more modern. And, black is slimming. It's your classic, go-to party look.
Gold Shoes for New Year's Eve
Look for metallic shoes to pump up your look. It's nice to have both silver and gold heels to play with depending on your mood. There are so many online discount stores it's hard to recommend one over another. For last minute party shoes, I have had luck with the Jessica Simpson brand, but my favorite store is a local consignment shop.
This year I got some amazing heels in silver, gold, and black. However, you have to start early for Christmas and New Year's Eve consignment outfits.
Cheap Clutch Handbags for Evening
When I need something glam and great and inexpensive, I go to Forever 21.
Be aware that when ordering from Forever21.com, they have a limited 30-day return policy for online orders. These items are cheap and they might fall apart someday, but they look more expensive than they are.
In London and the UK, good places for cheap, sparkly bags are Accessorize.com and NewLook.com. (These sites deliver to the US, too.)
Cheap Jewelry for a Party
Personally, I love bows. I love bows on shoes, on jackets, on dresses... and I love bow jewelry. If you have a signature style, you should always be on the lookout for good pieces (and cheap pieces) that speak to you.
Of course, if you're an older woman, you need to keep your jewelry simple and elegant. Do not wear kitty earrings with a kitty belt buckle and a kitty necklace. Animal themes are the most difficult to pull off, so go easy on the owls, dogs, and monkeys. Leopard jewelry is one exception. Leopard-head bangles are usually beautiful. However, don't wear more than one or two leopard pieces at a time.
Look Skinny in Photos
And, remember the photo rule: When having your picture taken at a party, stand in the center of the group or near it. That way you will be partially blocked by the other people and viewers will only get a glance of your amazing, voluptuous figure. However… perhaps you should stick out a leg so they can see your fab shoes.
